Blue Unit Solution will be showcasing its new water quality monitoring system as this year’s Aqua Nor in Trondheim.

Lab Station is a new programme of sensors specially designed to collect data on 13 vital water quality parameters from up to 12 locations simultaneously.
“Recirculating aquaculture systems farms are composed of countless different components that are all interconnected,” said Blue Unit’s Henrik Hamann Juhl. “If any of these components fail, it will have a negative impact on the rest of the farm. It’s comparable to the human heart – if it stops beating, all the vital functions of the body will go on a catastrophic downward spiral,” he added.
One of the major issues in modern RAS farming is ammonia and hydrogen sulphide control. Blue Unit’s Lab Station is able to quantify the amount of ammonia in a farm, discovering during development that the levels change significantly throughout the day.
These insights, coupled with other operational data, enable managers to increase their knowledge and better understand their situation. These precise measurements of water chemistry are closely monitored by Dansk Akvakultur, the trade association for the Danish fish farming industry.
“RAS technology is constantly evolving,” said Brian Thomsen, chief executive of Dansk Akvakultur. “A stable and high water quality is key to good farming, and therefore we follow developments in the field closely.”
