Monrad Hide, general manager fishing vessels, Rolls-Royce, said: “The live fish carrying market is a growing one – this vessel marks a new era for this specialist segment of the fishing industry.”

The vessel is innovative because it is a specifically tailored design centred around spacious, temperature controlled fish tanks in the hold of the ship.

The Rolls-Royce NVC 386 design incorporates the group’s latest developments in hull design to ensure fuel efficiency, lower operating costs and stability.

It features an advanced diesel-electric propulsion system comprising two Bergen C6 diesel engines and a hybrid shaft generator to reduce energy consumption onboard.

The new vessel will have a capacity of 3000m3 and will able to transport up to 450 tonnes of live fish.

According to Sølvtrans: “Control of the water flow and circulation in the cargo compartments has been a priority when designing the vessel, to secure optimal conditions for the fish.”

With this in mind, the vessel will also be equipped with advanced filters and systems for collection and destruction of all lice.

The vessel will be built by Spanish shipbuilders Astilleros Zamakona SA with delivery expected in June 2013.
