Olrac, the company that developed Olfish, the software for the collection, management and reporting of commercial fishing data, launched the new version of its software, Olfish-2007 in January 2007.
Olfish is a unique, intelligent database solution for the capture and management of all commercial fishing data in either real-time or from historic records. Olfish was developed specifically for the collection of data associated with commercial fishing operations. These include catch data; gear, logistical, and environmental information; pictures; video clips; sound and more.
The most visible change Olfish users will notice is the new ‘Bridge Console’ in Olfish-2007. The ‘Bridge Console’ is a real-time data collection tool which provides users with an easy-to-use interface to capture vessel activities and observations as they happen. These include detailed information of vessel movements and activities, environmental data, marine life, debris and other observations. The ‘Bridge Console’ has an ‘intelligent and dynamic’ commands bar which is constantly updated to reflect the vessel’s current activity or phase of operation. The ‘Bridge Console’ can also be used as a data entry hub for many other data recording and reporting utilities such as catches, fishing gear used, catch size structure and more.
Olfish is able to export all captured data in any format for use in third party systems (databases). Olfish-2007 is compatible with the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) specifications for its ELOG data infrastructure. Olfish also has successfully sent SHEEL (Secure and Harmonised Electronic Logbook) compliance reports to the Dutch Fisheries Management Authorities and it is fully SHEEL compliant.
In addition Olfish-2007 has number of add-ons modules which allow users, among other things, to predict areas of high catch rate, to optimally manage their fleet fishing activity and to dynamically produce GIS maps, charts and tabulated reports.
