The International Pole and Line Foundation (IPNLF) has started the New Year with growth in the form of new network members.
The organisation says that a strong member network is vital for increasing the momentum of change that benefits the environment and communities.
IPNLF’s latest members span new geographical ranges of Senegal, Canada and St Helena:
Asociacion Atuneros Cañeros (Dakar Tuna) is a tuna fishing association representing eight pole-and-line fishing vessels in Senegal. They believe in responsible, sustainable fishing and have always fished by pole-and-line.
The Canadian Highly Migratory Species Foundation (CHMSF) is a not-for-profit association representing the British Columbia North Pacific one-by-one albacore tuna fishery, formed in 2002. This fishery catches albacore by troll and jig, a form of one-by-one tuna fishing that uses barbless hooks and has minimal impact on the marine environment.
St Helena Fisheries Corporation (SHFC) is a non-governmental organisation, which was established in 1979 under the St Helena Fisheries Corporation Ordinance, for the purpose of supporting the sustainable development of the island’s fisheries.
