ICELANDIC company MARORKA, says it will be showing its latest, second generation Maren energy management at the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition and says it can reduce fuel operating costs by up to 15 per cent.
MARORKA says it customises the system for each vessel using a combination of four, fully integrated energy management toolboxes: data acquisition, monitoring system, operational optimisation and report generator.
The monitoring system offers real-time monitoring of data values. The operator has a clear view of the state of all connected equipment. Reports can be generated and managed by the 'report generator', where raw data is converted into valuable, understandable information for the owner and operators of the vessel.
Ship's crew are provided with information about the cost of a range of operations and they receive advice on the most fuel-efficient method of performing each operation. It says it has also developed a software for energy system design (EDT) to optimise fuel consumption by building this into the early design stage of a vessel.
It says the potential for improving the energy efficiency by thinking about it at the design stage can save up to 30 per cent in annual fuel consumption. It says Maren Consulting was used to evaluate the design for a proposed clam-harvesting vessel to be operated by Clearwater Seafoods from Canada. The evaluation included a time series analysis for the operation of the vessel, which provided a detailed operation profile highlighting areas for particular consideration. MARORKA created simulation models for hull resistance, the propulsion system, the refrigeration system and for the production and fishing equipment. This was followed by an analysis of the vessel's operation using the detailed simulation models to calculate the net present value cost of a range equipment configurations and hull forms.
The simulation and optimisation process provided a revised design for the vessel with a projected fuel consumption that was 23 per cent lower that the original design. Maren Consulting says it has developed different projects on fuel saving for companies in Iceland, Canada, Taiwan, Germany and the Netherlands.
Although, MARORKA started working in the fishing sector, it is now expanding its business and is now developing a project for carrier company Eimskip.
