Iceland‘s Markus Lifenet Ltd has developed Markusnet steering fork units, which are specifically aimed at the fishing industry and to enable crew to save a colleague that has fallen overboard.

Using the Markusnet, onboard crew can position the net structure under a passive floating person from a freeboard height of up to six metres, depending on length and strength of the handle.

On low freeboard deck boats, a double direction boat hook can be used for the same purpose.

By having this solution at hand the deck crew can secure a passive person in the net structure without entering the sea, explained Markusnet‘s Pétur Th Pétursson.

"Plunge the fork ends on to the outer-corners of the outer-edge of the net. Dip the outer end under the head and bottom of the person and release it under the knees with the person facing up. At the same time you stretch the lifting lines and hold the strain on the lifting lines until the person is either lifted manually or hoisted by a mechanical hoisting system,“ he said.
