In the four months since its grand opening in July, Alaska''s Kloosterboer Dutch Harbor has met with several major fishing companies that are seeking to use the facility as a one-stop logistical hub for the 2010 season, according to the facility''s general manager.
In addition to increasing efficiency, commercial fishing companies now have the opportunity to more aggressively promote safer and cleaner processes that enable their products to reach the marketplace in the best condition possible.
After decades of working in woefully outdated conditions that included dilapidated and unprotected docks, Kloosterboer's new facility provides members of the fishing industry with a world-class facility that includes a new 1,000-foot-deep draft dock, 25,000 square feet of cold storage and sheltered areas for offloading.
Industry leaders already using the facility expect to see an immediate increase in efficiency and profit as a result of using the new port in 2010.
