Iceland-based trawl door design and manufacturing company, Polar Fishing Gear, has reported good results with its Jupiter t4 model of pelagic doors, especially on high speed fishing for mackerel and herring.
“Our latest modification of Jupiter pelagic doors has proven very successful and skippers claim the doors give good performance in terms of reduced resistance and great stability during turning on high speed fishing,” said Polar’s Atli Mar Josafatsson.
Eight vessels in Iceland took a pair of Jupiter t4 pelagic doors for herring and mackerel last year, along with four Russian vessels operating in West African waters. Six pairs have already been delivered this year to Russian vessels operating in the North Atlantic, one in Namibia and also Icelandic vessels operating both in Icelandic waters and off West Africa.
“Cl / Cd spreading factors measured in the Hirtshals flume tank showed extremely low resistance, which gives the great stability of the doors and more importantly, less fuel consumption for low economical operation” added Mr Josafatsson.
