The North Sea Science Park will assume full control of the Flume Tank North Sea, Europe’s largest test tank for fishing, aquaculture and underwater technology.
Previously operated by Flume Tank North Sea, a subsidiary of the North Sea Science Park since October 2023, the subsidiary will now close and transition into an independent business area within the Science Park from 1 January 2025.

“Fishing, aquaculture and the use of the sea in general are undergoing major changes,” said Jørgen Christensen, chair of the North Sea Science Park.
“Over the past 15 months, it has become clear that the Flume Tank is a value-creating asset for players within research, development and optimisation of various types of subsea equipment, and that the more market- and customer-oriented approach to operations creates value for customers and partners.
“With this change, we are bringing the activities in the Flume Tank even closer to the core activities of the North Sea Science Park.”
Despite the structural change, daily operations at the Flume Tank will remain unaffected, with no changes to the current staff.
Mette Hyldgaard Roussis will continue her role business development manager, overseeing both the flume tank and business development activities at North Sea Science Park.
Hanne Kvist, director of the North Sea Science Park, welcomed the change. “The merger will strengthen the synergies between development, research and education to the great benefit of a wide range of stakeholders,” she said.
