A research boat named “Environment” was officially handed over to the Angolan National Institute of Fishing Research (INIP) by the Regional Programme of the Great Marine Ecosystem of Benguela’s Cold Current (BCLM) on 26 January, according to Angola Press.

The five-metre boat was built by the Z-Craft shipyard in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa, and is equipped with two 90hp Yahama engines, a fish detecting system, a Geographic Positioning System and a VHF radio.

The boat is also equipped with a coast map and a set of protection and safety equipment. The boat can be transported and launched in various areas along the coast.

At the handing over ceremony, the deputy minister of Fisheries, Pedro Joao Antonio, said that the boat will be useful for INIP, as it will be possible to establish environment monitoring programmes in areas such as the coastal waters.
