With less than 20 days to go until the future of Scotland is decided in a vote for independence, North East MSP Christian Allard is ‘Fishing for Yes’.

Mr Allard, who has worked in the fishing industry all his life, highlighted why he thinks Scotland can, should and must be independent. Representing the North East of Scotland and its fishing communities, he highlighted the fact that Scottish fish are among the best in the world, yet its retailers’ shelves are full of seafood from countries like Norway and Ireland. A ‘Yes’ vote will ensure that 100% of levies accrued in Scotland will be spent in Scotland promoting Scottish fish, he said.
“Promoting Scotland fishing industry is what I have done all my life, voting ‘Yes’ is how we can best support our fishing communities. Scotland should be an independent country to get its own voice in Europe.
"Under the current system other countries in Europe, including landlocked nations, have more of a say in fishing negotiations,” Mr Allard added.
“We must vote ‘Yes’ for the Scottish fishing industry to always get a government which considers fishing as a priority,” he concluded.
Mr Allard worked for many years in seafood haulage, both in France and Scotland, then exported Scottish seafood from Aberdeen before becoming a member of the Scottish Parliament.
The referendum takes place on 18 September 2014.
