Peruvian anchovy fishing company Hayduk Corporation has recently repowered one of its anchovy purse seiners, the Ana Lucia.

The Ana Lucia is a 48.95x9.05m purse seiner with a 500t cargo capacity. As part of the company’s fleet of around 22 purse seiners (the company also has six trawlers fishing hake), the Ana Lucia is an important contributor of anchovies both for direct human consumption and indirect human consumption by way of fishmeal. This carefully regulated fishery is an important contributor to the Peruvian economy.
The repower of the Ana Lucia involved the removal of a Cat 3516 rated for 1600HP at 1200RPM and its replacement with the Cummins KTA50 M2 rated for continuous duty of 1600HP at 1800RPM. In order to keep the same four-blade 2166m/m by 1748.94 propeller, that is optimised for the vessel, it was necessary to also change the gear from one with just under a 4:1 ratio to a Masson –ZF W7300 with a 6:1 ratio. This allowed for the significant increase in RPM with the new engine.
With the new engine in place and general servicing, the Ana Lucia makes 12.5 knots running light and 11.5 knots with a full load.
