A Norwegian skipper-boat owner has recently installed a completely new catch management system from VCU TCD BV aboard his ship VA-2-S ‘Hunter’.

Carl Aamodt’s vessel, home ported in Søgne, now has a complete new processing line, including stainless steel containers, machines for rinsing the fish, conveyors, gutters, chutes and the VCU-Catch management system.

Hunter catches whitefish and shrimp in the North Sea. Mr Aamodt said that he wanted to move forward to a more efficient way of fishing. “After we caught the fish, we had to manually wash it and carry it around in crates on a rolling and heaving ship to prepare it for further processing,” he said. “The new system does most of this work for us, so we will have more time and energy for other proceedings aboard.”

The sorting of the fish is facilitated through the use of a conveyor belt. After sorting, the fish enter a ‘bubblejet’ system that rinses and cleans the fish.

Mr Aamodt said that the catch management system has brought huge benefits, “Processing the fish is easier to control and it’s faster than ever. The system also keeps tabs on the kinds of fish we have caught and the quantity of each kind. So apart from saving us time and energy, the quality of our catch increases.

“My crew will have an easier job, which is less demanding, physically speaking.” He also expects to catch more fish in a shorter time-frame.
