The next generation of the UK''s fishmongers are being invited to take part in a competition that will test their technical knowledge, skills and passion for the trade.

The Master Fishmonger Standard celebrates excellence by certifying fishmongers who demonstrate professional skills and knowledge. The guild is managed by the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers, formed in 1272 and one of the Great Twelve Livery companies of the City of London.
Giles Shaw, president of the National Federation of Fishmongers, explained his support for the award. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase and celebrate the wealth of young talent in our profession," he said.
Recognising that both seafood preparation and customer service skills are key to high quality fishmongering, applicants must submit two videos: one demonstrating their filleting or shucking skills and one highlighting their passion for and commitment to the industry.
These videos will then be judged by both a panel of certified Master Fishmongers and a public poll available via the Master Fishmonger Standard website. Applicants must be under the age of 25 to apply.
The winner of the MFS Young Fishmonger Award will be invited to receive their prize at the annual MFS awards ceremony at the historic Fishmongers’ Hall on 3 June.
Applications close on 29 May and more information can be found at the Master Fishmonger Standard website.
