Following a successful independent audit of the Alaskan and Canadian salmon fisheries, Calkins & Burke is now authorised to export Friend of the Sea labelled salmon.
The fishing effort is restricted to FAO area 67 (with landings at Ports in BC and Alaska). The gear types are troll (hook and line), purse seine, gill net and aboriginal trap fisheries.
Fraser Rieche, Sustainability Officer of Calkins & Burke, said, “We are greatly satisfied with the Friend of the Sea certification and we are glad to confirm that the demand for Friend of the Sea certificated salmon is rapidly rising worldwide”.
