The Government of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick have announced CAD 38 million in funding for the Canadian fisheries and seafood sector, focusing on innovation, infrastructure and sustainability.

This investment, given through the Atlantic Fisheries Fund (AFF), supports 72 projects aimed at modernizing operations across aquaculture, processing, and harvesting industries in New Brunswick. The funding emphasises sustainable practices and new technologies to meet the demands of an evolving seafood market.
“Investments through the Atlantic Fisheries Fund help our coastal communities thrive in the fishing and seafood sector,” said Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard.
“We are proud to contribute to innovative technologies that ensure sustainability, efficiency, and the highest-quality seafood for the global market.”
Aquaculture & harvesting
Key initiatives include 31 processing projects improving seafood quality and competitiveness, 21 aquaculture projects enhancing oyster and salmon farming, and 16 harvesting projects focusing on sustainability and advanced data monitoring.
Additionally, four multisector projects will foster cross-industry innovation.
The AFF, a CAD 400 million fund launched in 2017, has helped bolster the seafood industry across Atlantic Canada, ensuring it remains a vital economic driver for rural and coastal communities.
The fund will continue accepting projects until March 2026, prioritising sustainability, infrastructure and science partnerships.
