A bird deterrent device that takes advantage of the fear reflex birds have for green light has been successful in helping protect fish farms from bird attacks and disease.

Bird Control Group's Agrilaser Autonomic projects a green laser beam towards the area where the birds are accumulating. The birds perceive this laser beam as a physical object and threat, retreating to the surrounding areas immediately.
The company said: "The Agrilaser Autonomic is the most suitable bird deterrent device for fish farms that suffer from invasive birds.

Flexible Configuration
The Agrilaser Autonomic can save up to 16 patterns and three timeslots. Each individual pattern can be assigned to a timeslot, enabling bird repelling capability at the periods and places of choice. The machine is powered by AC power. Where grid power is not available, the device can be equipped with an additional solar charging system.
Fish farms are targeted by birds daily and as the bird population has risen it has become a major problem. Once birds discover there is a high density of fish, they will attract more birds to the fish farm ponds. Birds can cause a significant negative economic impact on aquaculture. Birds not only eat fish but can also transmit diseases from one pond or aquaculture facility to another.
Traditional methods of bird control such as frightening, trapping and shooting are not reliable and effective, nor do they ensure safety, said Bird Control Group. Moreover, there are many laws and regulations that prevent farmers from shooting birds.
