The world’s largest purpose-built factory trawler is on track to be delivered on time and on budget by Tersan Shipyard in spring 2021 following a steel cutting ceremony attended by the vessel’s Russian shipowner, JSC Okeanrybflot and its Norwegian designer, Skipsteknisk.
At 108.2m long and 20m wide, freezer stern trawler Okeanrybflot is designed and built specifically for Pacific fisheries operations in the far east of Russia.
“We are pleased and proud to be awarded as the builder of this significant trawler” stated Mehmet Gazioglu, managing director of Turkey-based Tersan.
“As Tersan, by each individual, we are very excited having such special vessels in our order book and very much eager to proceed with the construction,” he added. “This order will consolidate our presence in the Russian market where we have already delivered a number of different types of technologically complicated vessels.”
Experienced team
Tersan has a repair yard in Tuzla, Istanbul, while its ship building division is based in Yalova. It specialises in building technologically advanced offshore, fishing and LNG and battery-operated vessels, alongside niche newbuild ships with various specifications.
In March, Tersan launched its first crabbing vessel for Russian fishing operator Arktikservice. The 61.9m Zenit is designed to have a 1150m3 refrigerated storage capacity and a processing deck capable of cooking and processing 60t of Kamchatka crab per day.
