Avramar has launched a new marine farm in Alicante’s province El Campello, adding to its existing sites in the Comunidad Valenciana in Spain.

With a 144 hectares surface, the new farm will produce 5,000 tonnes each year of sea bream, sea bass and the group’s flagship species in the country, Corvina REX. The complex will initially comprise 40 cages, each with a 32 metre diameter. A further ten are planned for phase two with production of commercial sizes due in October 2022.
The initiative has been well received with both the Institute for Coastline Ecology and the local authority for Agriculture and Ecological Transition involved with the initial study and future checks on the farm’s activity.
The company aims to create 45 new jobs in the area. “To have El Campello welcoming the birth of new initiatives that generate new jobs and, consequently, progress is always good news,” said El Campello’ mayor, Juan Jose Berenguer. “The fish farm has all the necessary favourable reports from relevant institutions, it complies with all the requirements and it will be beneficial for our association,” he added.
Maribel Marco, president and sponsor of the Wild Fishermen’s Association, welcomed the new opportunity for sea workers and said that the farm’s cages would include areas of cover in sandy depths that enable certain types of fishing.
As part of its commitment to social corporate responsibility, Avramar is developing similar initiatives in other areas and is planning visits from schools and local institutions to bring aquaculture closer to the community.
