The Transas Group, which offers simulation software for skipper training, has now added new features to its fishing simulator as part of its Fishing Bridge package and says it also has all the functions of Mission Bridge. That includes the imitation of situations in fishing areas, monitoring user-trainee activities, active control over operations by an Instructor, deck machinery models, etc.
Transas' new features, which it claims make the fishing simulator a unique training instrument, include the simulation of real fish-finding devices, a variety of fishing gear used worldwide (trawls, purse seines, fish finding solar imitator, echo-sounder imitator etc.).
There are also state-of-the-art visuals (including sub-water visual representation of different shoals, the seabed and fishing gear) as 3D objects with true colour, realistic texturing). It also interfaces with the DNV-A navigation simulator developed by Transas.
In order to assess user's progress there is also an additional module called Transas Evaluation and Assessment System (TEAS), which allows objective assessment of how far an exercise has been completed by the trainee on the NTPRO 4000 navigation simulator, including fishing gear operating assessment. It allows the comparison of individual exercise performance values with other exercise results. The assessment is checked against a pre-selected set of criteria.
Transas says it has sold fishing simulators in countries including Australia, Canada, France, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Ukraine and the UK.
