Danish land-based salmon farmer Atlantic Sapphire has appointed Jon-Birger Løvik as its Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Løvik joined the company’s US team in April 2021 as Director of Aqua Technology but has been involved in the business since its inception in 2010.
In his new role, he reports directly to the company’s CEO.
Atlantic Sapphire has been operating its innovation centre in Denmark since 2011, with a strong focus on R&D and innovation to equip the company with the technology and procedures to commercially scale-up salmon production in end-markets close to consumers.
In the US, the company has identified and obtained the requisite permits to construct a production facility in Homestead, Florida, south of Miami. At this location, it has completed Phase 1 of its construction, which provides the capacity to harvest approximately 10,000 tonnes of salmon annually.
The company completed its first commercial harvest in the US in September 2020.
Atlantic Sapphire is currently constructing its Phase 2 expansion, which will bring total annual production capacity to 25,000 tonnes. It has a targeted harvest volume of 220,000 tonnes in 2031.
