The EU Fish Processors and Traders Association and Federation of National Organisations of Importers and Exporters of Fish (AIPCE-CEP) have welcomed the EP Fisheries Committee vote on its CFP proposals.
The vote took place on 20 June and AIPCE-CEP has acknowledged the Committee’s constructive approach under its rapporteur, Struan Stevenson, and the way it has engaged with the numerous representations made to it.
The organisations say that the Committee has sent a clear signal that they want the new regulation to have greater coherence with existing legislation and not increase cost and complexity for industry or consumers. They say the Committee’s amendments represent a good and balanced outcome which lay sound foundations for future negotiations on this proposal.
“AIPCE-CEP welcomes this positive direction set by the European Parliament at this key stage of the discussions. We look forward to a final outcome which enables processors to continue to deliver sustainable supplies of quality fish to consumers at prices they can afford, enabling them to reap the huge health benefits from eating more seafood,” they said in a statement.
