The company was first awarded certification in 2009 and can continue to display the Friend of the Sea eco-label on its products.

“We are very pleased to again bestow our certification on Acuapesca Group and its family of companies that put a priority on sustainable practices,” said Paolo Bray, director of Friend of the Sea. “They have a large-scale, complex operation, so the certification was not a simple process. We admire their commitment to the environment.”

The Lima-based Acuapesca Group is dedicated to farming, processing and marketing Peruvian scallops (Argopecten purpuratus) for foreign markets. Over the past 25 years, Acuapesca has been the national and regional leader in the harvest and export of this species. As of this June, the company is also the first farm producer of organic scallops in the world.
