McAirlaids offers a range of absorbent materials for food packaging and storage, in cut pieces and rolls, which the company says improves pack appearance and product quality.
Of special interest for seafood products are:
FishPads – very high capacity air transit pads to absorb and retain melted ice in bulk transport packs of fresh fish. FishPads are available in capacities from 600ml to 6 litres to suit all standard airfreight boxes.
MG-XTC pads – as well as absorbing fluid in retail MAP trays, the XTC pads produce carbon dioxide inside the pack to increase shelf life and improve pack appearance while reducing pack headspace and material thickness, due to maintaining constant positive pack pressure. Available in a range of fluid capacity and gas volume to suit various products and pack sizes.
FreshTab – by adding absorbency to the traditional rigid cardboard inserts for vacuum pack, McAirlaids has solved a common problem of excess oil or other fluid inside retail packs of smoked seafood such as salmon or mackerel. The result is a cleaner, more customer friendly package, but at the same time the FreshTab is efficient in production as it can be automatically dispensed onto the packing line.
