Ioanna Argyrou is the General Manager of NAYS Ltd, a senior Biologist – Ichthyologist and a highly experienced consultant and technical advisor in the fields of fisheries and aquaculture, environmental and spatial planning studies, since 1988. NAYS specializes in services related to maritime issues, including fisheries, aquaculture, spatial planning, environmental protection, coastal zone management, sustainable economic growth of the maritime sector in the Mediterranean, regional development, ecotourism, agroproduct marketing, branding and processing. Mrs Argyrou has been involved in Research and Technological Innovation projects, supporting the needs of the aquaculture sector. She is also experienced in the evaluation of technologies technically and financially. She has been involved in the establishment of Areas of Organized Aquaculture development in Greece (“POAY” acronym in Greek terminology) which includes active cooperation between private and public sector and other bodies.

She is a co-founder of the established “Greek Technological Aquaculture Platform”, strategically and operationally planned by NAYS. She participated in 2014 in a working group for the definition of Research and Technological Priorities in the field of Aquaculture, under the platform – network for Agro-biotechnology-Nutrition coordinated by the General Secretariat of Research and Technology, for the planning period 2014-2020. She has been included as an expert evaluator in the European Experts Database, since 2009. She is a member of the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece, accredited with the necessary consultancy certificates by the Ministry of Environment, Energy & Climate Change for the elaboration of Environmental (Degree of type No 27C) and Fisheries & Aquaculture studies (Degree of type No 26C). She speaks fluently Greek and English.

Mrs Argyrou has professional experience related to 1) licensing of marine aquaculture farms and the conduct of POAY studies, 2) Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP): in the Northern Evoikos and Maliakos Gulf (2002-2004), in the Northern and Southern Evoikos Gulf and the Channel of Orei (2010-2011), in the Gulf of Argostoli, Kefalonia island (2013-2014), in the marine area of Oxia island and the western coast of Koutsilaris hill (western Greece) (2012-2013), in Amvrakikos Gulf (Epirus and western Greece) (2014), in Ampelos and Porto Koufo, Sithonia, Halkidiki (northern Greece) (2014), in Saronic Gulf, Diaporia islands, Salamina island and the wider region (islands and coast of Attica) (2015), in Leros island and the wider region (South Aegean Sea) (2015). She has also participated in the implementation of the Management Plan for the National Marine Park of Alonissos in North Sporades, Greece (2008-2009).
