A 600t per annum salmon hatchery, smolt and market-size Atlantic Salmon Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) R&D facility in Poland has successfully grown several large batches since opening in 2016.

AquaMaof Aquaculture Technologies Ltd’s “Global Fish" facility near Warsaw houses multiple RAS rearing units with tank space ranging from 1-200 m3 to maximise growth conditions for salmon and has batches ranging from eggs to Smolts to 5Kg harvest-size fish.
David Hazut, CEO of Israel-headquartered AquaMaof, said: "We see significant growth potential in the supply of recirculating aquaculture systems to Salmon production companies. The investment in Poland will serve two main purposes: first, we are operating this facility as an R&D centre, collecting valuable information and analysing it, for further innovation in the RAS area. Secondly, it serves as a training facility for our customers' staff.”
Power efficiency
AquaMaof's zero discharge technology utilises proprietary water reuse techniques. At the core of the RAS technology is efficient power consumption, dramatically reducing costs of energy. No antibiotics or chemicals are used in the process, allowing for the production of healthy, natural salmon, said AquaMaof.
It added that it enforces biosecurity and control to ensure that salmon is grown with high health and welfare standards. There are no drum filters for minimal maintenance and optimised feeding modes and an advanced feeding management system enable reduction of the Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) and operational costs.
Two years ago AquaMaof was chosen by Canada-headquartered Grieg NL to build the world’s largest indoor salmon aquaculture facility in Newfoundland. AquaMaof has also established a salmon aquaculture business unit in Scotland, headed by Dr Andrew C Preston.
