Mercator Media, the organiser of the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition, the largest fishing event in the North, is pleased to announce that the fourth Icelandic Fisheries Awards, which recognise excellence within the Icelandic and International fishing industries, will be sponsored by Landsbanki.
Jon Thor Gunnarsson, Senior Director of Landsbanki commented, "As the main seafood bank in Iceland, Landsbanki welcomes the opportunity to support the fishing industry by sponsoring the 2008 Icelandic Fisheries Awards. A leading force in promoting economic progress and the development of Iceland's industries since its inception in 1886, Landsbanki is Iceland's premier full-service commercial bank."
The winners of the 13 categories will be presented with their trophies at a cocktail reception to be held on the top floor of the newly built Tower in Kópavogur. The reception will again be jointly hosted by the Icelandic Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture and City of Kópavogur.
Icelandic Fisheries and Agriculture Minister, Einar K. Guðfinnsson, commented, "The Icelandic fishing industry is unique in many respects, both because of its great importance for the Icelandic economy and its reputation and respect throughout the world.
"These factors result, among other things, from the perseverance, the innovation and extensive and continued input by the members of the Icelandic fishing industry.
"The Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition holds an important role in strengthening even more the reputation of the Icelandic fishing industry, its image and that of the enterprises involved.
"The Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition has rooted itself as a highly important venue for Icelandic and foreign undertakings in introducing themselves and their activities. Since the first show in 1984, the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition has become one of the world's 'must-see' shows.
"I look forward to formally opening the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition 2008 this fall and to attend and host, in collaboration with the mayor of Kópavogur, the Icelandic Fisheries Awards reception, in the evening of the opening day."
Marianne Rasmussen-Coulling, Business Manager of the Exhibition and Awards added, "The 2008 Awards will follow the same format as 2005 and, being the tallest building in Iceland, the Tower gives unparalleled panoramic views across the bay of Kópavogur and Reykjavik, and will be a fantastic new setting for this event. The awards will be presented in a short and sleek ceremony, making the whole evening an accessible and convenient way to network with key Icelandic and international personnel from the fishing industry.'
