Norway’s leading food research institute at 100% Fish conference.

Senior scientist in marine biotechnology, Runar Gjerp Solstad, will be speaking in Session 1, “Enabling technologies for full utilisation” at the 100% Fish for Profit Conference at IceFish on 23 September 2026. 

Runar has been at Nofima, the Norwegian institute of food fisheries and aquaculture research since 2016. He holds a PhD from UiT, the Arctic University of Norway, focused on isolation and characterisation of novel marine antimicrobial peptides. 

His current research focuses primarily on utilisation of marine side-streams into food and feed. This is an ongoing research effort to increase the utilisation of marine species beyond the current level. Common methods include enzymatic hydrolysis, TGA, HPLC-pda, spray drying and filtration techniques in addition to working on the scalability of these processes from laboratory to pilot scale. 

Nofima is a leading food research institute that conducts research and development for the aquaculture industry, the fishing industry and the food industry. It has 374 employees, of which 173 hold a PhD, a 711 million NOK turnover (2025), is working on 500 different projects and has customers from 34 countries. It has offices in Tromsø (headquarters), Bergen, Stavanger, Sunndalsøra and Ås, Norway.
