Ernesto Rodriguez Leal
Ernesto Rodríguez Leal is a Mechanical and Electrical Engineer from Tecnológico de Monterrey, with dual Master’s degrees in Mechatronics and Global Technology Management from Technische Universität Hamburg. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from King’s College London and a certificate in Strategy and Innovation from MIT.
Ernesto has authored over 40 peer-reviewed scientific publications, supervised more than 10 Ph.D. students, and published a book. He served as an Associate Professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey, where he led the Robotic Manipulation Research Group and directed the academic program in Innovation.
In industry, Ernesto was Director of Research, Development, and Innovation at Grupo Rotoplas, where he spearheaded strategic initiatives and launched new products, services, and business models. He introduced agile methodologies organization-wide and implemented a structured product development framework—efforts that led to a more than 10x increase in the company’s innovation-driven outcomes.
As an entrepreneur, he has co-founded three tech-based startups across robotics, healthcare, and education. He is also a public speaker, lecturer, and consultant, and has been recognized with numerous awards, research grants, and fellowships.
Currently, Ernesto serves as the Executive Director of the Center for Applied Aquaculture Innovation (CAAI), part of the Innovaciones Alumbra Collective. In this role, he is leading efforts to build an innovation ecosystem that drives the growth of warm-water generative aquaculture—advancing sustainable food solutions and contributing to ocean health on a global scale.
