Michael Gallagher

Dr. Michael Gallagher is Innovation Manager at BIM (Bord Iascaigh Mhara), where he works with seafood processors, fishers, government agencies, and industry partners to drive innovation and sustainable growth across Ireland’s seafood sector. His work focuses on fostering strategic collaboration, advancing the adoption of emerging technologies, and developing commercially viable initiatives that enhance efficiency, value creation, and competitiveness. A particular area of expertise is the blue bioeconomy, where he leads a number of pre-commercial projects aimed at unlocking value from under-utilised marine resources. Michael also serves as Chair of the Northwest Blue Bioeconomy Working Group and Chair of AIMBIO. He holds a PhD in Fisheries Biology from Trinity College Dublin and an MBA specialising in knowledge transfer
