The contract for the building of Namsos, a Havyard 587 Live Fish Carrier design, was signed in November 2013.<\/p>\n
B\u00f8rge Lorentzsen, deputy CEO of NFT, said: \u201cHavyard 587’s hull and propulsion system are also very economical in terms of fuel consumption. We can carry three times as much salmon with Havtrans and Namsos as older boats without having to use more fuel.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNaturally, this benefits our customers and, not least, it represents a big environmental gain.\u201d<\/p>\n
NFT will send the carrier on assignment immediately under a long-term contract with Oppdretternes Milj\u00f8service (OMS).<\/p>\n
Namsos and the Havyard 587 design are a further development of the Live Fish Carrier FS Stormy, delivered by Havyard in 2014.<\/p>\n
Havyard and NFT have used cylindrical tanks to further develop and improve the Havyard 587 design, which has now resulted in Namsos.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can guarantee that Namsos will not be our last newbuild, and, as things stand now, our next one will also be based on this concept,\u201d said head of newbuilds B\u00f8rge Lorentzsen.<\/p>\n
The vessel is 84.6m in length and its three cylindrical tanks can hold a total capacity volume of 3,250m3<\/sup>.<\/p>\n Trygve Solaas, project manager at Havyard Ship Technology in Leirvik, said: \u201cA modern Live Fish Carrier is an advanced vessel, with many systems that have to be adapted, installed and tested.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIn many ways it is more complicated to build a Live Fish Carrier than most of the offshore vessels we have delivered.
