The fingerlings were shipped from the company\u2019s new production base in the Tay Ninh province to a customer in the Hai Duong province in northern Vietnam at the end of August.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe imported specific pathogen free (SPF) tilapia larvae parent stock from our nucleus facility in the Philippines in March 2021 and delivered the first fingerlings from the new site in August 2021,\u201d said Alejandro Tola Alvarez, chief executive at GenoMar Genetics Group.<\/p>\n
Most fingerlings on the market are either produced in northern Vietnam or imported from China. The supply is seasonal as black tilapia are exposed to climatic conditions that inhibits reproduction. The industry therefore struggles to get starting material at some times of the year. Securing disease free material can also be a challenge.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a primary breeder at the top of the value chain, we take health management very seriously,\u201d said Nguyen Van Trung, general manager at GGV. \u201cThe Vietnamese parent stocks are SPF, the facility is designed with biosecurity principles, and we are implementing comprehensive health management plans and metrics.\u201d<\/p>\n
