The latest campaign is designed to rank US canned tuna companies and solicit donations from supporters \u2013 something the NIF says is \u201cnon-scientific, non-transparent and completely subjective rankings\u201d, which it goes on to say are one of the \u201cthinnest offerings Greenpeace has ever promoted\u201d.<\/p>\n
The NFI goes on to highlight that Greenpeace is the same group that refuses to join the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF\u2019s) ongoing dialogue about tuna sustainability.<\/p>\n
The Foundation, a partnership between global tuna canners (including Bumble Bee, Chicken of the Sea and Starkist), scientists and WWF, is the premier tuna conservation group.<\/p>\n
\u201cReporters and producers might find it odd that Greenpeace doesn\u2019t even acknowledge a group whose mission is to undertake science-based initiatives for the long-term conservation and sustainable use of tuna stocks yet they will rank companies who participate in such group,\u201d the NFI said in a recent statement about the matter.<\/p>\n
Now, the NFI is urging the media to research Greenpeace\u2019s strategy and \u201cpush for scrutiny\u201d on its unpublished methodology.<\/p>\n
