Mercy Ships operates the world\u2019s largest civilian hospital ship Africa Mercy<\/i> and provides free healthcare services to those living in developing countries, namely in Africa, where the services of professional medical staff are most needed.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t want our relationship to be simply a cheque writing exercise; instead we would like to encourage our team to get actively involved with the charity, supporting the incredible work they do in Africa,\u201d said Michael Moore, managing director, J Marr Seafoods.<\/p>\n
Mercy Ships\u2019 African focus means that it is already well-aligned with J Marr Seafoods, whose main market is based in West Africa.<\/p>\n
Currently, the floating hospital is docked in Madagascar, where over 90% of the population are living on less than 75p a day and where medical care is scarce. The ship will remain there until summer 2015.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis support is going to come in a number of forms from contributions, fundraising, sponsored activities and events to knowledge and information sharing about the regions which both Mercy Ships and J Marr Seafoods operate in,\u201d Mr Moore added.<\/p>\n
During its service in Madagascar, Mercy Ships will be providing 1,700 surgeries for adults and children onboard the Africa Mercy<\/i>. The charity also plans to treat around 8,000 people at a land-based dental clinic during their eight-month visit, and the charity\u2019s medical professional volunteers will provide free healthcare education and training to Malagasy healthcare professionals and community leaders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
