The company says the fault, which was fortunately noticed before the vessel was due to sail, lies in the main engine\u2019s main bearing, but it\u2019s unclear what other damage it\u2019s caused, though the crankshaft and other components could have suffered.<\/p>\n
\u2018We\u2019ve brought in St\u00e1lsmidjan-Framtak to repair the engine and the opinion is that it needs to be taken out before being dismantled. They\u2019re aiming to start work tomorrow and until the engine has been taken apart, it won\u2019t be possible to assess the damage,\u2019 explained G\u00edsli J\u00f3nmundsson, HB Grandi\u2018s marine superintendent.<\/p>\n
Mr J\u00f3nmundsson added that it will take at least six weeks to overhaul the engine, assuming there are no other problems, and that it could be finished around the end of January 2015.<\/p>\n
HB Grandi says the issue will impact it\u2018s schedule of raw material supply to it\u2018s shore-based processing plants in Reykjav\u00edk and Akranes.<\/p>\n
