All of our cod production now takes place in Akranes where we produce from between 100 and 200 tonnes every week. The volume varies according to the season and over the last few years fish has been trucked from Reykjavík to Akranes. We see landing direct in Akranes as a way of streamlining operations and we hope that we can continue landing our fresher trawlers there,” Loftur Bjarni Gudmundsson said.

The processing plant in Akranes has a workforce of approximately 100 – when production was at its lowest point staff numbers had dropped down to only 20.

HB Grandi’s Akranes factory began processing fish landed by fresher trawler ‘Sturlaugur H Bödvarsson’ this week – the first groundfish landed by an HB Grandi vessel at Akranes for six years.

[9
["post-5905","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-industry-news
["GET
