5in10 will work with the Council on a study that will assess the impact initially in Indonesia, where it funds sustainability work headed by the Association of Indonesian Blue Swimming Crab Processors (APRI).<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that focusing sustainability initiatives on communities, as opposed to simply species, has the potential to have a larger and more sustained impact both for oceans and the people and businesses that depend on them,\u201d said Miguel Jorge, managing director, 50in10. \u201cThe NFI Crab Council\u2019s industry-led efforts in places like Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines are good test cases for just how much of a return on investment this type of focus can have.\u201d<\/p>\n
NFI Crab Council executive director added that the type of economic analysis 5in10 plans is \u201creally ground breaking\u201d. \u201cDeveloping a model that can quantify a group or company\u2019s investment in sustainability not only helps to benchmark progress in the fishery, it also potentially serves to encourage other fisheries to focus and invest in sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n
The NFI says it hopes 5in10s work with its Indonesia partner will create a template that is applicable to assessing all of our projects and other species and fisheries.<\/p>\n
5in10 is a worldwide collaboration among NGOs, businesses, funders and governments to restore fisheries.<\/p>\n
