The ideal temperature of the Greek sea and its distinct physiochemical characteristics combined with the year-round sunshine, provide the perfect environment for raising healthy, high-quality fresh fish, full of natural nutrients and exquisite taste.<\/p>\n<p>Greek aquaculture represents one of the country\u2019s most important productive sectors. It encompasses all necessary elements to develop into a major economic lever capable of delivering considerable growth to the sector of primary production and the social fabric of the country, by attracting investment opportunities and creating several thousand jobs. The competitive advantage of Greek aquaculture lies in its export orientation and positive contribution to Greece\u2019s trade balance and GDP, as 78% of production is being annually exported and 22% sold to domestic markets. According to the Hellenic Statistical Authority, in the first half of 2017 fish are the top export products of Greece, dominating both European and non-EU markets, occupying second place after fresh fruit, in the food sector.<\/p>\n<p>Embracing the growth and development of its 21 Members to date, the privately-owned, non-profit Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization was established in 2016. Representing approximately 80% of aquaculture products\u2019 value and volume, the mission of the Producers Organization is to confront international competition and exploit the dynamics of the industry arising due to the significant increased demand for aquaculture products worldwide. The primary objectives of HAPO are to promote all reforms required to achieve 4% increase in yearly production, provide consumers with proper information on aquaculture products and execute an integrated communication and promotion plan focusing on the remarkable characteristics and exceptional values of the fresh Greek fish raised with the outmost care by its Members in the best locations of the magnificent and unspoiled Greek sea.<\/p>\n<p>The common reference point of all actions pertaining to the mission of the Producers Organization is the creation of the national identity of all fresh Greek fish produced by its Members, represented by the new collective label \u2018Fish from Greece\u2019. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018Fish from Greece\u2019 indicates Greece, a European member state, as the place of provenance of all fresh fish raised in the unspoiled Greek sea, by the members of the Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization. With an easy, distinctive, memorable name and embracing hues of light blue and sparkling white\u2014the colors of the Greek flag and sea \u2014 \u2018Fish from Greece\u2019 is the new seal of confidence, trust, sparkling freshness, excellent quality and superb taste, for seafood buyers and consumers across the globe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sea, the legacy of Greece, is the country\u2019s trademark.
