{"id":4522,"date":"2012-07-31T17:53:00","date_gmt":"2012-07-31T16:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldfishing.nfdtesting.uk\/icefish-conference\/2012\/07\/31\/good-samaritans-rescue-stricken-fisherman\/"},"modified":"2012-07-31T17:53:00","modified_gmt":"2012-07-31T16:53:00","slug":"good-samaritans-rescue-stricken-fisherman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldfishing.net\/icefish-conference\/news\/industry-news\/good-samaritans-rescue-stricken-fisherman\/","title":{"rendered":"Good samaritans rescue stricken fisherman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 17th Coast Guard District received a report late on Saturday evening that the fishing vessel <i>Viewpoint<\/i> was tied to the good Samaritan fishing vessel <i>Ocean Maid<\/i> in Gardner Bay but was taking on water.<\/p>\n<p>The master was reportedly unable to keep up with flooding despite multiple dewatering pumps provided to him by the assisting <i>Ocean Maid <\/i>crew.<\/p>\n<p>A Ketchikan 47ft motor life boat and crew was dispatched to rescue the fisherman.<\/p>\n<p>The flooding was under control when the Coast Guard arrived on scene in the early hours of Sunday morning and the decision was made to tow the <i>Viewpoint <\/i>to Ketchikan.<\/p>\n<p>But while on tow, the <i>Viewpoint <\/i>began rapidly taking on water and the crew was unable to keep up with the flooding. The master was rescued from the vessel and the fishing vessel was allowed to sink.<\/p>\n<p>Lt.
