\u201cIt hasn\u2019t taken long for everything to be working as it should. We\u2019ve had two trips to the Westfjords fishing grounds and we had practically a full fishroom each time,\u201d he said.
Vi\u00f0ey<\/em> was delivered by the Celiktrans yard in Turkey at the end of last year and arrived in Iceland in December, after which it was taken to Akranes for the catch handling deck and the unmanned fishroom to be installed. That was completed before the Seamen\u2019s Day holiday at the beginning of June.
\u2018We\u2019re still learning about the technical and computer equipment, but all this has exceeded our expectations,\u201d he said, clearly thoroughly satisfied with the new ship.
\u201cIn fact, I can\u2019t be dissatisfied with leaving Ott\u00f3 N Thorl\u00e1ksson<\/em> for the new trawler. Ott\u00f3<\/em> was a fine ship, but had its limits. Here on Vi\u00f0ey<\/em> you\u2019re hardly aware of any movement. Noise levels are ideal. Once you\u2019re in your bunk you can hardly hear a thing when the gear is hauled and the sound of the gear on the deck doesn\u2019t reach the accommodation. Sometimes on board Ott\u00f3 the noise could be so loud that you couldn\u2019t hold a conversation, but that\u2019s all in the past now. There\u2019s no more to say about the crew facilities \u2013 everything is first class,\u201d J\u00f3hannes Ellert Eir\u00edksson said.
He has long experience of working with Bacalao trawls, and Vi\u00f0ey<\/em> has two of these on board. Trawl doors are from Thybor\u00f8n and are around four tonnes each.
\u201cWe\u2019re actually working with trawls that are quite a bit larger than they were on board Ott\u00f3 and the doors were around three tonnes. In spite of that, the trawl and the doors are lighter to tow than they were before,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
