{"id":4230,"date":"2012-01-17T13:21:00","date_gmt":"2012-01-17T13:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldfishing.nfdtesting.uk\/icefish-conference\/2012\/01\/17\/fuel-savings-for-kite-propelled-fishing-vessels\/"},"modified":"2026-08-26T23:46:26","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T22:46:26","slug":"fuel-savings-for-kite-propelled-fishing-vessels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldfishing.net\/icefish-conference\/news\/power-propulsion\/fuel-savings-for-kite-propelled-fishing-vessels\/","title":{"rendered":"Fuel savings for kite propelled fishing vessels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Om\u00e9ga Sails, French kite propulsion experts, initially developed the system for pleasure boats, but is now looking to roll the system out to smaller commercial vessels.<\/p>\n<p>Vincent Leblond of Om\u00e9ga Sails said to <i>World Fishing: <\/i>\u201cSome 60 m2 kites are now in place on fishing boats of 10-12 m for some individual fishing companies and are now being tested.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cFrom the first observations, fuel savings appear to be at 40 to 50% for the time the kite system is in use &#8211; which is about 30 to 40% of the total sail time.
