\u2018Perluga Caviar\u2019 and \u2018Caviar Caviale\u2019 are produced in one of the world\u2019s largest sturgeon farms set in the heart of the Lombardy region. The caviar has been grown under natural, ecologically compatible conditions since 2006.<\/p>\n
Friend of the Sea noted great care is taken to ensure that the farm exceeds set aquaculture standards, while a team of fish farming experts assure constant monitoring of the site.<\/p>\n
All precautions are undertaken to ensure the farms and their conditions mimic those found in the sturgeons\u2019 native breeding ground.<\/p>\n
The facilities are lined with a layer of riverstone pebbles, there is an inflow of up to 2,000 litres of fresh water per second from the neighbouring river and additional springs guarantee optimum water conditions at all times.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the typical seasonal fluctuations in temperature and natural light conditions all ensure that the sturgeons have a gradual and healthy growth.<\/p>\n
Dalla Rosa, Caviale\u2019s farm manager, said: \u201cBy gaining Friend of the Sea\u2019s seal of approval we can demonstrate to our customers the great care taken to ensure the sustainable nature of our caviar.\u201d<\/p>\n
Executive director of Friend of the Sea, Paolo Bray said, \u201cWe are proud to be able to announce the certification of sustainable Italian caviar, aquaculture farming practices are becoming increasingly more eco-friendly and it\u2019s important that consumers are aware of this.\u201d<\/p>\n
