Launched in February by Menter a Busnes, \u2018Port to Plate\u2019 promotes seafood products from Wales and supports the development of Wales\u2019 seafood industry. Since its launch, much of Port to Plate\u2019s work has been as a direct response to the Covid-19 pandemic, while continuing to promote the industry and encourage consumers to buy local.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the start of lockdown, we have consulted with Welsh Seafood businesses to assess their situation so that we can determine the true reflection of the situation in Wales,\u201d said Si\u00e2n Davies, Port to Plate development manager.<\/p>\n
Businesses supported by the project include Conwy fisherman, Carl Davies, who is using mobile technology to reach new customers after his angling enterprise was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and Ceredigion fishmongers Jane and Richard Roche, who are bringing their \u2018The Fishermen\u2019s Rest\u2019 caf\u00e9 fare directly to customers with the purchase of a new delivery van.<\/p>\n
For one fisherman, business during the pandemic \u2018has gone from one extreme to the other\u2019. Berwyn Dennis who runs Albatross Fisheries had consigned his boat to his shed until daughter Kaylie convinced him to use social media to find new markets.<\/p>\n
