{"id":3297,"date":"2010-05-20T10:03:00","date_gmt":"2010-05-20T09:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldfishing.nfdtesting.uk\/icefish-conference\/2010\/05\/20\/herring-season-starting-up\/"},"modified":"2026-08-26T23:41:45","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T22:41:45","slug":"herring-season-starting-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldfishing.net\/icefish-conference\/news\/industry-news\/herring-season-starting-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Herring season starting up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to Vilhjalmur Vilhjalmsson, head of HB Grandi\u2019s pelagic division, there have been few reports of herring with only one Icelandic vessel having tried to find the fish so far.<\/p>\n<p>In 2009 HB Grandi\u2019s pelagic vessels started on herring on the 24 May, so this year\u2019s season has a similar start date.<\/p>\n<p>HB Grandi\u2019s pelagic factory in Vopnafjordur has been in preparation for the herring season for the last few weeks. Two new automatic Baader filleting machines have been purchased, along with new conveyors and equipment to handle the herring.<\/p>\n<p>Magnus Robertsson, factory manager at the Vopnafjordur plant, said final preparations are being made in the production area. It has seven filleting machines, three of which are automatic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of work has gone into altering the feed system.
