{"id":2800,"date":"2020-01-15T11:39:00","date_gmt":"2020-01-15T11:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldfishing.nfdtesting.uk\/icefish-conference\/2020\/01\/15\/videy-breaks-100000-tonne-record\/"},"modified":"2026-08-26T23:38:58","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T22:38:58","slug":"videy-breaks-100000-tonne-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldfishing.net\/icefish-conference\/news\/industry-news\/videy-breaks-100000-tonne-record\/","title":{"rendered":"Vi\u00f0ey breaks 10,0000 tonne record"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As well as <em>Vi\u00f0ey<\/em>, Samherji trawler <em>Bj\u00f6rg<\/em> also had a record 2019 with landings over 10,000 tonnes.<\/p>\n<p>According to <em>Vi\u00f0ey\u2019s<\/em> skipper J\u00f3hannes Ellert Eir\u00edksson, there were 57 trips in 2019, making an average of 180 tonnes per trip \u2013 not bad for a trawler with a fishroom capacity of 190 to 200 tonnes.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Last year was certainly a good one, but it\u2019s not as if we can say that this year has started well. There\u2019s constant bad weather, both at sea and ashore,\u2019 he said as <em>Vi\u00f0ey<\/em> docked after its second trip of the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018There was appalling weather the whole time, and the conditions kept us off the Westfjords grounds. We stuck to the south-west fishing grounds the whole time, which gives us some shelter from the north-easterly wind. The aim this time was to get as much haddock and saithe as possible, but the saithe were nowhere to be seen although we ended up mainly with golden redfish. This was a 100 tonne trip. That\u2019s not a lot, but considering the conditions, we can be thankful for it,\u2019 J\u00f3hannes Ellert Eir\u00edksson said as he was preparing to sail again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The overall catch landed by Brim\u2019s fresher trawler Vi\u00f0ey last year came to a total of 10,177 tonnes.
