{"id":2242,"date":"2008-05-01T15:55:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-01T14:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldfishing.nfdtesting.uk\/icefish-conference\/2008\/05\/01\/more-local-management-and-local-rights\/"},"modified":"2008-05-01T15:55:00","modified_gmt":"2008-05-01T14:55:00","slug":"more-local-management-and-local-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldfishing.net\/icefish-conference\/news\/industry-news\/more-local-management-and-local-rights\/","title":{"rendered":"More local management and local rights?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The almost unanimous committee report sailed through the first April session of the EP, reports Peter O\u2019Neill, and told the EU Commission not to rush into a plan for a one-size-fits-all \u201crights-based management\u201d (RBM) system across the EU.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission has recognised that RBM has a \u201csignificant complementary role in Community fisheries management\u201d, while the CFP\u2019s TACs and quotas have not solved management problems.<\/p>\n<p>The EP wants more study of the complex and potential conflicts over definitions of stock \u201cownership\u201d and a deeper look at existing successful RBM systems which have also cut discards.
