The symposium is being held on the 9th and 10th March in Edinburgh, Scotland.<\/p>\n
The speakers will include representatives from the European Commission, environmental sector, fishing industry representatives and fisheries scientists.<\/p>\n
Issues to be discussed include:<\/p>\n
\u2022 The cause of the decline in North Eastern Atlantic cod<\/p>\n
\u2022 The success\/failure of management measures to date<\/p>\n
\u2022 Whether cod recovery is really possible<\/p>\n
The symposium will look at the cod recovery programme on a region by region basis so that stakeholders who are knowledgeable on a specific area can consider the impact of the recovery programme on their area in particular.<\/p>\n
Small working group meetings will also be set up.<\/p>\n
The organisers are hopeful that the outcome of the discussions will identify a practical way forward on how cod fisheries should be appropriately managed.<\/p>\n
