{"id":19,"date":"2010-01-28T16:16:00","date_gmt":"2010-01-28T16:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldfishing.nfdtesting.uk\/icefish-conference\/2010\/01\/28\/macduffs-new-design-favonius\/"},"modified":"2026-08-26T23:26:20","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T22:26:20","slug":"macduffs-new-design-favonius","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldfishing.net\/icefish-conference\/news\/new-vessels\/macduffs-new-design-favonius\/","title":{"rendered":"Macduff\u2019s new design &#8211; Favonius"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <em>Favonius<\/em> PD17 has been built for brothers Andrew and Phil Buchan, and will operate Peterhead through Caley Fisheries Limited.<\/p>\n<p>The brothers\u2019 previous <em>Favonius<\/em> was also built at Macduff Shipyards Limited as the <em>Aspire<\/em> FR793. This wooden hulled vessel was 21.20m overall with 6.86m beam.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions on the proposed new vessel took place over a period and the main criteria was to design a vessel a little longer, to be easier to drive through the water, and to be fuel efficient by fitting a large diameter propeller at slow speed without excess engine power.<\/p>\n<p>A Mitsubishi S6R2 MPTK was chosen which produced 643HP (480kw) at 1350RPM with a Reintjes WAF 374 at 7.091:1 reduction ratio giving a shaft speed of 190RPM.
