One of the driving forces behind the Scottish Ocean Cluster, Dr Tracy White will share her experience of the ongoing transformation of Scotland\u2019s seafood sector in the final session of the 100% Fish For Profit Conference at IceFish 2026. <\/p>\n
Dr White\u2019s appointment as Manager of the ground-breaking initiative at the end of last year saw the project enter a new phase, including a trio of cross-sector workshops to gather real-time feedback from those working across seafood, biotech and academia. <\/p>\n
The workshops, which were attended by Dr Alexandra Leeper, CEO of the Iceland Ocean Cluster, demonstrated an appetite for scaling-up sidestream product utilisation as companies recognised that what was previously viewed as \u2018waste\u2019 can generate higher value returns. <\/p>\n
Dr White said at the time: \u201cA lot of companies are testing the water, but what\u2019s ultimately needed is a mindset change \u2013 for people to grasp the wealth of opportunity the Cluster presents.\u201d <\/p>\n
As the first employee of the Scottish Ocean Cluster, which aims to treble the value of the country\u2019s seafood industry sidestreams, she supports collaboration across industry, research, academia and government to accelerate value\u2011maximising, resilient models for seafood, fisheries and aquaculture. <\/p>\n
Her contribution at 100% Fish For Profit \u2013 Utilisation Isn\u2019t Enough: Scotland\u2019s Transformation to 100% Value Creation \u2013 will detail the Scottish Ocean Cluster\u2019s approach to systemic barriers and its support for the journey to high value products. <\/p>\n
In a career combining the seafood and biotechnology sectors, Dr White\u2019s previous roles include head of science at Oban\u2019s CuanTec Ltd, which extracts chitin from langoustine shells, and scientific consultant at Dalriada Biosolutions. <\/p>\n
She will be joined in the session by Dr Xiao Recio-Blanco of Builders Vision, Allen Haroutonian, founder of Blue-X, and Luis Bourillon from COMEPESCA.<\/p>\n
