{"id":11623,"date":"2009-12-01T13:50:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-01T13:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldfishing.nfdtesting.uk\/icefish-conference\/2009\/12\/01\/noaa-announces-131m-contract-to-repair-survey-ship-2\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T00:20:43","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T23:20:43","slug":"noaa-announces-131m-contract-to-repair-survey-ship-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldfishing.net\/icefish-conference\/news\/vessels-shipyards\/noaa-announces-131m-contract-to-repair-survey-ship-2\/","title":{"rendered":"NOAA announces $13.1m contract to repair survey ship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The year-long project, which received $7 million through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, began this autumn and includes structural repairs to the ship; installation of updated hydrographic survey systems; replacement of davits and other deck machinery; refitting of living and berthing spaces; upgrades to machinery control systems, power generation machinery and the ship\u2019s steering system; and general maintenance and preservation work.<\/p>\n<p>The project is part of NOAA\u2019s effort to modernise the agency\u2019s fleet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project will extend the service life of the NOAA Ship <em>Rainier<\/em>, create jobs and help the economy,\u201d said Rear Adm. Jonathan W. Bailey, director of NOAA&#8217;s Office of Marine and Aviation Operations and the NOAA Corps. \u201cThis vessel is one of the world\u2019s most productive hydrographic survey vessels and will play a major role in helping NOAA support safe and efficient navigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 231-ft. <em>Rainier<\/em> has been surveying the US Pacific coast since 1968 in support of NOAA\u2019s nautical charting program.
